WWF Appreciates Novotel Malioboro for Sustainability Program

Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro has received recognition from WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) for its various sustainability initiatives. Through these actions, Novotel actively commits to protecting the surrounding environment, improving quality of life, and reducing the impact of climate change.

WWF also invited Novotel Suites, along with two other hotels and business players from the food and batik industries in the Yogyakarta and Solo regions. Novotel Suites hosted the event to collaborate with industry partners and WWF in developing the SAP (Sustainability Action Plan). Once finalized, the plan was carefully crafted and will be submitted to WWF for evaluation. WWF for evaluation.

The event’s highlight featured Mrs. Pelagia Puspa Agrippina, Operational Manager of Novotel Suites Yogyakarta. Novotel Suites was honored with a certificate for its active role in developing the SAP. The hotel also received recognition for using RSPO-certified (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) oil. The program aims to encourage the hospitality industry and SMEs to support sustainability and adopt RSPO-certified palm oil, which is more environmentally friendly and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and the use of harmful chemicals. In addition, it promotes responsible sourcing practices that contribute to a more sustainable future.

Sustainability Initiatives by Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro:

  • Eliminating Single-Use Plastics: Novotel Suites replaces single-use items with eco-friendly alternatives like glass bottles and paper packaging for room amenities and avoids plastic cutlery.
  • Recycling Wastewater: Novotel reuses treated wastewater for watering plants, helping conserve water resources and reduce costs.
  • Cage-Free Eggs: In partnership with UGM’s Faculty of Agriculture, Novotel supports eggs from cage-free chickens, supporting sustainable and ethical farming.
  • Plastic Waste Recycling: In collaboration with Pastelab and 4K, Novotel repurposes plastic waste into toys or donates it to support turtle conservation efforts.
  • EV Charging Stations: Partnering with Wuling, Novotel provides EV charging facilities, promoting the shift from fuel-based to electric vehicles.
  • Guest Education: Educational videos on food waste encourage guests to take only what they need, reducing food waste.

The commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop here. Novotel Suites plans to continue its efforts by installing solar panels to convert sunlight into hot water. Novotel Suites Yogyakarta Malioboro aims to achieve Green Key certification by 2025 and become a Pioneer Sustainability Hotel in Yogyakarta.
