What is Beer?
Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverages in the world. It’s generally made from grains like barley, wheat, corn, and malted barley. The g process involves fermenting the sugars in the grains using yeast, which produces alcohol and carbonation. Unlike spirits, this kind of drink does not go through a distillation process, resulting in a relatively low alcohol content, typically between 2% and 11% ABV (alcohol by volume).
Beer is often categorized by bitterness, color, and aroma, influenced by hops and fermentation methods. Some beers have fruity or spicy aromas, while others might have a stronger malt flavor or a creamy texture.
Beer-Making Process:
• Malting: Brewers gather grains, soak them, and then leave them to sprout under sunlight to initiate growth.
• Mashing: Brewers soak and heat the malted grains to a boil, activating enzymes that release sugars into the water. Brewers then filter this liquid, known as wort.
• Boiling: Brewers boil the wort and add spices like cardamom, chili, bay leaves, and hops, which help preserve the brew.
• Fermentation: Brewers add yeast to the wort mixture to break down the sugars.
• Bottling: This stage includes adding carbonation when pouring the ale into bottles.
• Aging: Brewers typically age the finished beer for about six months before selling it to nearby stores.
